It’s fun to shop in Downtown Asheville. Around Lexington Avenue, Haywood Street, and Biltmore Avenue are where most of the best shops are. Downtown is a great place to find souvenirs, local art, or just a good deal.
Here are a few of the shops we like best in Downtown Asheville:
If you like sweets, you have to go to the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. They sell gourmet chocolate truffles, hot chocolate, and other sweets that are made with ingredients from the area.
The Woolworth Walk is the place to go for souvenirs and gifts that have to do with Asheville. This shop sells things like pottery, jewelry, textiles, and more that were made by local artists.
Second Gear on Haywood Street is a good place to look for antiques or old furniture. They have things from many different times, and the staff is always happy to help you find what you need.
Need to buy a lot of food? The Greenlife Grocery Store has everything you need, plus organic produce and other healthy foods.
These are just some of the great shops you can find in downtown Asheville. During your stay, be sure to check out the rest of the city’s unique shops.
Some of the best restaurants in Asheville can be found right in the middle of downtown. From food straight from the farm to southern comfort food, Old Town has something for everyone. Here are a few that we like:
The Market Place: This restaurant has been a local favorite for more than 30 years, and it’s easy to see why. Dishes that are in season and fresh from the farm are served at the Market Place. Be sure to try the Roasted beet salad with goat cheese and pistachios, which is their signature dish.
Rhubarb: Rhubarb is a fairly new addition to the food scene in Asheville, but it’s already getting a lot of attention. This restaurant serves modern American food with a focus on ingredients from the area. The menu changes often, but there’s nothing you can’t get right. We like the chicken thighs with polenta and honeycrisp apples that have been roasted.
Crate: If you want a taste of Spain in the North Carolina mountains, go to Crate. This tapas bar and restaurant serves Spanish dishes like paella and patatas bravas that are made in the traditional way. The small plates are great for sharing, so bring a group and enjoy!
